Description

Title: American Material Culture/Objects in Everyday Life & History

In this course, students uncover the cultural messages in the objects and spaces of our everyday lives. They attend to the development of American consumer culture and how physical objects construct racial, ethnic, and gendered identities. Objects of study include, among others, cemeteries, museums, architecture, clothing, and vernacular art.
